bio
Mukul plays with various media, but particularly sound and text, to explore relationships between rule-bound forms (both classical and novel) and chance, between technology and tradition, and between signal/data/music and noise. An interest in the grammars of different media has naturally led to diverse collaborations, and to works utilizing hybrid media. His sound work is informed by OuLiPo, Indian music, and Steve Reich's "gradual process" idea. Another major interest, the spatialisation of sound, has informed site-specific installations around the world.

Mukul has worked extensively with contemporary dance companies and choreographers, (including Russell Maliphant and the Ballet Boyz) and artist-filmmakers. He is currently (2010) developing a 9-channel piece for Isaac Julien.

28. - 29.Oct.05 Party in Kathmandu
Mukul will be playing at PartyNepal's PEACE PROJECT THAMEL festival on Saturday 29th October – a free street party in its 3rd year – and also at the club of the fabulous Yak and Yeti on Friday 28th. He will also be giving a workshop on music production.
20.Nov.05 TRANSMISSION (Russell Maliphant) World Premiere, Cannes
World premiere of Russell's new company work, TRANSMISSION, with music by Mukul, at the Festival de Danse, Cannes, on Sunday 20 November. Lighting is by regular collaborator Michael Hulls. The piece, a 35-minute female quintet, will tour around Europe over the next few months ahead of its London premiere at Sadler's Wells in April 2006.
