During production, we offered opportunities to participate. We posted open calls to submit films, to be filmed, and run workshops to develop films in response to the theme. Watch online

 WORKSHOPS May 2009

Members of FLIX attended six workshops to story board and film videos in response to a selection of bylaws by Southwark Borough.

FLIX is a Southwark based group for young filmmakers who create short films and learn about writing, storyboarding, editing and post production. FLIX is part of Visual and Performing Arts, (VAPA), Southwark Council Children's Service arts provision. FLIX have held two short film festivals FlixFest (in partnership with the South London Gallery), as well as regular screening events.

>CALLS CLOSED NOW<

We're looking for silent short videos (max 60 sec) which respond to specific local UK byelaws and laws that affect public space.

What regulations apply in your neighbourhood? Some might be outdated (no sheep grazing in the park), some bizarre (hot air balloon take-offs permitted only in case of emergency), some paranoid (police to disperse groups of two or more persons in public places), some simply unbelievable (no tourist snapshots of bobbies allowed).

How to Participate:

We are publishing our favourite quotes from various laws and byelaws at this website.
Your contributions will be edited together with videos quoting extracts from the relevant laws, interpreted into British Sign Language (see the website for more information). The works will be viewable using a custom-built stereoscopic viewer installed at Peckham Square in June.

___________

Do you know British Sign Language?

Volunteers needed for artist film project!

For the project Limitations Permitted, we are looking for volunteers who are fluent in BSL to be filmed signing specific local UK bye-laws that regulate public space.

Limitations Permitted playfully interrogates some of these regulations, with a serious eye on the pressures under which they put our civil liberties.

How to participate
To assist you, our favourite bye-laws have been translated by a BSL interpreter and exist as a video recording. You will be filmed re-signing them (in 3D!) in front of a blue screen, interpreting extracts of the chosen laws. Your contribution will be edited together with silent short videos that respond to the relevant laws. The works will be viewable during the exhibition at Peckham Square at the end of June.

Filming dates:
20 May, 6-8pm, Peckham
by appointment (before 12 June): ambientspace, Hackney E8
